Plaster-scape
This large-scale piece focuses on the process of interaction of light and material. The scale plays a role as viewers can interact and move around the large structure. The material that makes up the piece is plaster which absorbs light and creates a dynamic color mixing within the work. Plaster was also used as the stiff workable paste made it easier to control and layer while also giving gravity some say. The lights used were small LED lights as they gave the option for more variety of light around the piece. They are carefully placed around the structure bouncing off imperfect areas of the plaster and geometric shapes scattered among the work while also melding together in some spots creating more variety of light. There are geometric structures built into the piece which offsets the abstract nature of the plaster. These pieces let the light create shadows that add detail to the piece. The simplicity of the white plaster makes the lights stand out more and creates an environment that is intriguing and mysterious. There is no concrete understanding of the piece which gives viewers the chance to make the experience their own.
